Oops AND Presto Magnifico!

(Steve, please skip the 1st paragraph.)

So I had been very busy at work and hadn’t played a hand of on-line poker in over 9 months. Then, Steve told me the other day how he was up over $10k at the no-limit games at one of the online sites in the past month and I thought to myself, “Hey, if a fish like Steve can kill the game, it must be pretty good.”

So on Sunday night I sit down and hop into three different 5-10 no-limit games at the same time. After about 30 minutes I realize that it is not quite enough action, so I join one of the hi-low pot-limit Omaha games as well. To be safe, I drop down to 3-6 blinds at pot-limit Omaha because I hardly ever play it. On the first hand, I flop the nut low and then turned two middle pairs. I go all-in and get called by a fish with no low and two lower pairs. Cha-ching! Up $600 just like that. I win three more pots over the next 10 minutes where I have the nut low and everyone folds after my big bet. Then, I get dealt 2345. The flop comes A 3 5 and I have the nut low again. It is obvious that another player has also flopped a wheel, so I don’t raise too much on the flop to keep other players in. The turn comes 5, and now I also have a full house! I go all-in thinking that I have other guy with the wheel three quartered. River comes blank, and the hands flip over. It turns out that the other guy did flop the wheel too. But wait!!! The entire pot gets pushed to me. He doesn’t even get a quarter of it. On top of that, the other guy isn’t even complaining. Then I have one of those “Ahhhhhhhhh” moments and realize that I accidentally sat down at a hi-only game, not a hi-low like I had thought. I was playing the wrong game, but had still managed to triple up my buy-in. I hadn’t noticed because I was playing three other 5-10 hold-em games at the same time! I decide to keep playing the pot-limit hi game and cash out a couple hours later with $3,800 in chips. Pretty good for a table with a $600 max buy in! And, I also win at the 5-10 holdem tables. Nice introduction back into the game.

So last night (the next day) I am about to go to bed when I think to myself, “what’s the harm in a quick no-limit session?” I sit down at the computer and hop right into two no-limit holdem games. After a few minutes I get dealt pocket 5s at one table. I manage to flop set-under-set and I slow play the guy with the higher set to the turn. We both go all-in and then the river comes 5! Cha-Ching. I scoop a nice $1800 pot. Computer off, and straight to bed.
